Managing to capture my love for localization and Legend of Zelda games, it was hard for me not to enjoy this game. Specifically, deciphering the game's secrets and alphabet really struck a chord with me. Sure, games like Fez have done the same thing, but Tunic really tied it to the experience of being someone who loves video games. I don't think you could show this to a "normal" person and get the same effect. It's a game that was made with a very specific experience in mind, and executed perfectly in so many ways. The only flaw is that the combat can feel very clunky, especially with certain boss encounters. Don't be afraid to use the built-in combat modifiers if you're struggling with it. Everything else that game does is well worth it.
