"Cat Me If You Can" is a Purr-fectly Wholesome Puzzle Game! (Preview)
The horrors purr-sist, but so do I!
Generally, I like games with a degree of intensity. Whether it's a high stakes narrative or impactful combat mechanics, having an action-packed experience is always what I gravitate towards when looking for a game to play. However, with everything happening in the world right now, sometimes there is such thing as too much intensity to the point where I need a palate cleanser just to stay sane. When scrolling through games that had demos on Steam, I came across Cat Me If You Can, which was exactly what I had in mind. A game where you search and take pictures of cats? Sign me up!
While the demo was a brief experience, only allowing me to play through the tutorial and one level, I was enamored with the concept. You are equipped with a camera, as well as a couple other tools, and your mission is to find and photograph all the cats you can find. It's a very simple idea, and one that I enjoyed playing. The entire world is in black-and-white, making the investigation a bit harder as the cats blend in pretty well. While there are settings to change the visual styles to be darker, lighter, or even in Sepia filter, the difficulty is more or less the same.
In addition to a camera, you are also equipped with a radar that can point out a cat or an object lying around that's important for a side mission. If things get a bit too challenging, using said radar can be helpful for not feeling totally lost. I found myself using it a few times to find a cat nearby, and it was refreshing enough to get me back into my "searching mindset." The settings also have an option to change the cooldown for the radar in case you want to wait less time to use it.
Cat Me If You Can is a wonderfully wholesome puzzle experience. With settings to increase/decrease aspects of the game's difficulty, it's a game that respects the player and doesn't expect too much from them. Cat Me If You Can is a game that understands its audience of people seeking a wholesome, puzzle-solving experience.
If this was enough to get you interested in trying the game out, Cat Me If You Can currently has a demo on Steam, with the full game set for a Q3 2026 launch...along with everything else in the industry. But I will say, it will definitely serve as a prrr-oper comfort game while everyone else is on the edge of their seats waiting for GTA VI. To each their own, I guess!
