6 Games from Twitch Galaxies That Grabbed my Attention!
These trailers were "out of this world!"
It feels like we have one or two game showcases every week at this point. I love a good showcase, don't get me wrong, but during these past few weeks in what I called the "SeptOct Shuffle," (check out my YouTube series on that, if you'd be so kind) it feels like we're already drowning in plenty of great games, so events like today's Twitch Galaxies are the icing on the cake! After an hour of back-to-back trailers, I've got a small collection of games that grabbed my attention during today's show. Who knows, maybe they'll make an appearance on my page in the future!
If you missed Twitch Galaxies earlier today, you can give it a watch and get caught up below.

OK, now that you're presumably caught up on Twitch Galaxies, here are the games that stuck out to me!
#1: My Penguin Friend
2019's Untitled Goose Game showed me that any animal is capable of being part of a grand adventure full of shenanigans. In comes this game, where you solve puzzles around a coastal village and just do penguin things. I don't need any more of a selling point than that, and I promptly wishlisted this right away. I can't wait to become a penguin when this game comes out. Clearly I'm not the only one, as Lucy James also put this at the top of her list for lookingfor.game !
#2: Appulse
Appulse is the fusion between pinball, top down shooter and roguelite where you need to protect your mothership from invading robots. Each shot affects your ball's trajectory, allowing you to control it in the heat of the battle. Upgrade your equipment and conquer new spaceships to win the war!
Pinball is practically a timeless game. Few things are more entertaining than shooting a metal ball around a pinball table and activating all sorts of bells and whistles to get a high score. At first, I thought this was a pinball roguelike, which I would have immediately signed up for; but instead the pinball table serves an actual purpose. By slapping the ball around the various slides, rails, and bumpers, you can earn upgrades and weapons to protect your mothership during space combat. This sounds pretty cool to me, so I'm looking forward to giving this game a shot (heh) in its demo.
#3: Guns of Eschaton
The world’s first soulslike FPS pulls you into an apocalyptic Western by the legendary Viktor Antonov: a land of dust, blood, and horror. Study your enemies, count your bullets, forge your own style with gunpowder and prayers. Solo or in co-op—go West, gunslinger, go West and die with the country!
With how cool this game's trailer looked, we are 2 for 2 on banger first-person soulslikes between this and the recent Valor Mortis. Guns of Eschaton feels like a similar take on the soulslike genre, but now in some kind of supernatural wild west. While Valor Mortis had both melee and ranged combat options, it seems this game will focus entirely on managing the few bullets you have in your chamber and adapt to the world around you. Given that I loved the demo for Valor Mortis at Summer Game Fest earlier this year, I anticipate I'll enjoy this game just as well.
#4: Mr. Records Level Editor
I don't think I have to say much here, as I've made it clear how much I enjoyed the demo for Mr. Records. Just when I thought this game couldn't get any better, they introduced a level editor mode! Wired Productions clearly knows their audience, because I can already anticipate all kinds of user-created levels between ones based on popular songs to the most hilarious meme levels known to man. If it's anything like how Clone Hero opened the floodgates to let people make their own Guitar Hero levels, then this will be one to keep an eye on.
#5: Altered Alma
Altered Alma combines the beloved classic Metroidvania formula with RPG elements, dating sim features, a slick pixel-art presentation, and a gripping story. Whether you want to beat up bad guys, find love, or just explore the beautiful cyberpunk cityscape, Neo Barcelona awaits!
After reviewing Clockwork Ambrosia earlier this year for SmashPad, I was keen to find another pixelated metroidvania that echoes a similarly satisfying gameplay experience. Then I saw Altered Alma show up on Twitch Galaxies, and it was there that I knew I found my game. The pixel-art presentation looks brilliant, and it looks so satisfying to quite literally rip through enemies (did you see all the carnage in that trailer??). Just when it couldn't get better, they even briefly showed a skill tree, and that cemented my interest in this game. I have already downloaded the demo for this game and I can't wait to dive into it.
#6: Ember and Blade
Become the immortal hunter and stand against the archdemon Asmodeus. Cut through bullet-hell swarms, clash with Souls-like bosses, and harness celestial blessings that reshape your powers each run. The demons are rising—raise your sword.
While we're on the subject of slicing through enemies, Ember and Blade was another game that evoked a similar response to me. Within the first few seconds, I found myself thinking, "this looks like a cross between Hades' roguelike structure and musou-style enemy encounters," and from there I was enthralled in what looks like a promising hack and slash experience. Who doesn't love cutting through hundreds of enemies and feeling like the most powerful being alive?
As if we needed more games to look forward to, Twitch Galaxies came in swinging this October with some certified bangers. Let me know what your highlights from the showcase were in the fancy new comments section down below—thanks player.gg for adding comments!
