Good Game Lobby Gaming Club
A recap of what we’ve played so far and the community's reviews and articles about their experiences.
Hey friends, and welcome to this introduction to the Gaming Club. If you didn’t know, I started the Gaming Club on Discord over a year ago. Wow! Time flies. It is a way to clear my backlog and share the experience with friends and community members. Since then, we have played 15 indie games, from point-and-click, metroidvania, action-adventure, soulslike, puzzles, and more!

This article explains what the club is, how we nominate, vote, play games, and how you can join. It is also the first in a series where we recap the games played and the content created by the Good Game Lobby community. Have you played any of these games? Let me know in the comments, and I will link it in future posts.

What is Gaming Club?
Gaming Club is a book club for games. Every three months, the community comes together to nominate three different games. We have set rules that you can see here:
- Pick 3 different games
- $1 - $20
- 1 - 15 hours to complete
- PC, Switch, PS, and Xbox (All covered if possible)
- Indie or AA
- Multiplayer or single-player
Once nominations are complete, we vote on our favorites, and the top three become the games we will play that quarter.

You may be asking what games we have already played, so here is the list!

Gaming Club: Community Spotlight
The GGL community is growing daily, and many are on Substack. Naturally, that means they share their thoughts on games we play in the club. Here are a handful of those articles, reviews, and videos. Let’s kick things off with Christena’s Tunesdays With Maurer.
Christena’s Monthly Quest for Vibes in Gaming
C. W. Maurer Writes has a weekly series on VGM and made a monthly post on the Gaming Club picks. Here is the post on a recent pick, Firewatch. I love this series because, as I have mentioned many times, most articles don’t feature soundtracks or highlight the composers. This is where Christena’s work truly shines.

Your Nominations Count: Ask Oya!

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Oya proves that with determination, anything is possible. What am I talking about? Well, almost every month, Oya was nominating the fantastic Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Unfortunately, it wasn’t receiving any votes. Sometimes, even Oya wasn’t voting for it because she was picking other great games from the list. That’s when one round of nominations Luna and I noticed it wasn’t on the list. We banded together to get Oya to nominate it with the promise we’d vote for it. One thing led to another, and it was our pick for July! Check out Oya’s tribute to the game that brought me to tears—happy tears.

A Review for the Best Cult in Gaming by Calvin
Cult of the Lamb was an interesting pick because I owned it on Switch and PC, and didn’t play it. The backlog issue is huge for me. So, getting the chance to play with the community was a highlight. I even named characters in the game after community members, and this was before I realized I could feed them poop. Sorry y’all!

Calvin Barrett shares a deep dive into his experience with the game and does a great job of clearly sharing when he is entering spoiler territory. Best part? He loved the game!
Review: Cult of the Lamb brought out the worst in me. I loved it.
Bassicfun is the Best Hype Man for the Gaming Club

Poco DESERVES your attention! - YouTube
Since I started GGL, Chike at Bassicfun has been a huge support. His interview with Joe, the developer of The Edge of Allegoria, helped push me to get serious about editing longer-form videos. So, when he joined to play Poco, I was excited to see his shout-out to Gaming Club and his love for this fantastic point-and-click adventure. Also, the game is free, so why not pick it up!? Check out his review of the game and subscribe to his channel. He shares a wonderful mix of indie games.
Peter Joined for His First Gaming Club Chat!
One of the best parts of the chat at the end of the month is when you find that others either had a similar experience to you or something completely different. Tunic highlighted the difficulty and how we all dealt with it. What looks like a cute Zelda-like really is a soulslike nightmare for others. Peter Monks touches on this throughout his review and his own experience. Check the comment section —on his review—for more insights from the community!
The Most Wholesome Game I’ve Ever Played With My Son
ROP has a great channel dedicated to playing games with his son, and it is so wholesome. So, naturally, playing one of the most wholesome games to exist in the indie gaming world was a hit. Check out his review—he highlights what was seen as a game that was “too cutesy” to one he highly recommends.

Evan The Alchemy Wizard’s Long-Awaited Chants Review
Evan C. Moore is one of my favorite people in our little community. Since the start of Gaming Club, he has gone out of his way to jump into the end-of-the-month call. He joined once while he was driving home. Evan is a great hang, with a fantastic sense of humor and one of my favorite writers. His obsession with Chants of Sennaar shines brightly in his latest review. I enjoyed CoS, but chatting with the group gave me a different outlook on the game and added it to my all-time list of games.
