UP! UP! UP! It's the only thought you can still grasp. You have an infection that started in your foot, now it's in your head. Meet strange neighbours, make bad trades, learn about them. Everytime you fail, the building stays the same. What changes is what you know.
MOLDRISE is a First-Person Survival Horror game developed by German solo dev and YouTuber Raffaele Picca with a healthy dose of retro aesthetics and a soundtrack by Mike Klubnika, the developer and composer behind Buckshot Roulette, s.p.l.i.t. and the soon-to-be released Machine Party.
The games premise is simple: You have found yourself infected with a mysterious, deadly, foot fungus, and for unknown reasons you have a urge to get to the rooftop of the 30-story tall apartment building you live in.
When you hear "Survival Horror" your mind likely goes to games like Resident Evil where the survival aspect comes from surviving against enemies. In MOLDRISE, however, the survival aspect comes from resource management.
When you move, your infection, thirst and hunger all grows stronger. In order to survive for longer you must consume food items, beverages and medicine against the fungus. You can find items by talking to your neighbors, doing them favors (and going through their trash) selling items for coins you can use at wending machines.
BUT, death is inevitable in MOLDRISE. However, on each playthrough (hopefully) you will learn something new that helps you progress further up the stairs. As you make your way up you will find that the stairs are blocked, the elevator is not working, and you need a code to get onto the higher floors. In order to progress you must knock on your neighbors doors, talk to them, choose the proper dialogue option to get hints on how to progress, and take all these hints with you until you eventually learn exactly what to do, and how to get to the top.
But be warned, not everyone has good intentions. What is this mysterious fungus consuming you? The only way to find out is by going up.
