Game de Seishun

Game de Seishun

KID, Success

Game de Seishun is a multiplayer party board game in the mold of The Game of Life, which follows each player's avatar through five stage of youth, from kindergarten through to graduating high school and starting a career. The focus is on building friendship and relationships with various characters, and living a full and satisfying youth, with the winners being decided by so-called "seishun points" which are accrued by deepening interpersonal relationships, earning money from jobs, exercising and studying to improve oneself, and going on dates. Each player moves through the board by selecting from one of several numbers to determine the number of spaces to move. Various spaces have different effects: some cause good or bad events to occur, some cause random events to happen, and some allow the player to pick a specific activity for the day such as studying or going to work which will increase various stats that in turn affect future events. Once all players have reached the goal, points are tallied based on the game type selected and a winner is decided.

FlipFlop, Artdink, Success

A second, expanded PlayStation iteration of Artdink's Atlas series. You are once again in charge of a trading company headquartered in Lisbon, and tasked by the king with exploring the rest of the world and bringing home the spoils. In addition to the exploration, trading and map creation of the prior game, it adds an "episode" system which is effectively a quest log, as well as changes and updates to the story and quests. Additionally, it improves on the trading system, adding the "trading post" function, which allows the player to choose which product to make in some cities, which allows for more streamlined trading. Just like the prior games, the shape of the world is determined by the player's belief or disbelief in the reports brought in by their admirals, and ultimately influences what is found on the map, and the routes that are available.

Metal Saga

Metal Saga

Success, Crea-Tech, Atlus

A follow-up to the Metal Max games, Metal Saga is set in the same post-apocalyptic world as its predecessors - a world populated by bounty hunters, rangers, bandits, and mutant monsters. You take the role of a bounty hunter who has to travel the world, looking for "wanted" people. Accompanied by a soldier, a mechanic, and a cyborg dog, the hero must survive a journey west that will ultimately take him to remote places and lead him to battles against evil. Metal Saga has a less linear story line that one would normally expect from a Japanese RPG - a story line that develops according to the missions you decide to take, which in their turn lead to new events and finally to different endings. The combat system features traditional party management and turn-based battles, with the addition of Metal Max's trademark tank combat. When you acquire tanks for your characters, you can use them in battles. Tanks get damaged and broken, but you will be able to customize them by finding parts scattered across the world and assembling them to build new models. Based on the model of tank many different kinds of weapons, cannons, and accessories can be equipped to it, making for hundreds of different options. Tanks can even be given a custom paint job that is saved to the memory card.
