Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia

Brøderbund Software, Masaya, Konami, NCS, Ubi Soft Entertainment

The award winning computer software adventure that has people everywhere rattling their sabers is here for Super NES. And now the animation is more detailed, and the controls more responsive. There's even a five part training mode for sharpening your running, jumping, climbing and sword fighting skills. But the sands of time are against you. For you must survive 20 perilous stages, rescure the princess from the evil Grand Vizier Jaffar, and claim the royal residency all before the hourglass is empty. Beware the unpredictable floors and ceilings, gut splitting guillotines, hidden spikes, walls of flames and more. Jaffar's spells spell doom if you're not crafty and nimble. And a legion of savage servants, amazing amazons and immortal skeletons will do his barbaric bidding. Even your own alter ego is the enemy. Pass through invisible doors and walk through space portals. Find vessels of magic potions, but partake of them wisely. They may increase your life or just as easily poison you. So take each step with caution, young would-be prince, or the entire kingdom will suffer the darkest Arabian night ever. Prince of Persia was ported to many systems, but the version for the SNES was extended. Not only were the graphics improved significantly, the the amount of levels and their size was increased as well. Instead of one hour for twelve levels, the player now has two hours to beat 20 levels.

Gaiflame

Gaiflame

NCS, Masaya, Hudson Soft

Mecha strategy game developed by Masaya in 1987. Gaiflame is a turn-based strategy game from Masaya that was released on a number of Japanese home computers, as well as the PC Engine. No version of the game was ever released outside of Japan. The player moves around mecha and jet units around a world map, trying to conquer as much territory from the forces of darkness as possible in order to repel them. When two opposing sets of troops occupy the same area, the game switches to a hexagonal grid where the two forces clash. When units meet in combat, the game uses animated cutaways demonstrating the exchange of damage. Gaiflame is considered a precursor to Masaya's Langrisser series, along with Gaia no Monshou and Elthlead.

Hisou Kihei X-Serd

Hisou Kihei X-Serd

NCS

Hiso Kihei Serd (aka Hiso Kihei X-Serd) is an SRPG game by Masaya. The game is similar to other robot/mech games by Masaya/NSC, such as Vixen 357 on Sega Mega Drive. At the end of the 24th century, humanity recovered from a devastative World War and humans started to colonize the galaxy. In 2384, unknown invaders attack the Jupiter base and finally reach Earth. Although the Earth Federation has prepared a counter offensive, the chances of success are very slim. But the Asian Federation has a secret weapon, the SERD Squadron, and its mission is to find and destroy the invader’s bases and drive them out of Earth. Hiso Kihei Serd is a turn based war game at its core and in any given mission the player must deploy and control a number of Serd giant robots on an overhead map – each mech comes with its own characteristics, some are fast and have long-range attacks whereas others are bulkier, slower but use more powerful weaponry. When a fight between two opponents is triggered, the screen switches to an animated sequence. Each Serd gains experience in battle which may be used to enhance its attack and evasive capabilities. However, should one of the Serd be destroyed during a given mission, it is gone for good but more (up to seven) can be acquired as the game progresses. Hiso Kihei Serd consists of ten missions and is single player only. A password system also allows the player to save his progress (although the backup RAM can also be used). It is important to remember that some units possess a special ability, many of which can easily turn the tide of the battle. Using them wisely is a key to quick victory in later stages. Overall, this is an enjoyable game, and a prequel to Vixen 357. One can easily notice the similarities between these 2 games, and it’s easy to pick up one if you’ve ever played the other one at some point.

Moto Roader MC

Moto Roader MC

NCS, Masaya, Ratalaika Games S.L.

Moto Roader MC is a racing game by NCS and is the third episode of the Moto Roader series. Up to five players can race each other on twenty five tracks (five courses of five tracks each) as they vie for the first place. Unlike other games of the series, each track is constructed of a single static screen and is reminiscent of the arcade classic Super Sprint. Each race is made out of eight laps where anything goes! Cars are invincible and can fire an unlimited amount of rockets and bombs which, consequently, leads the gameplay more towards speed and attack. All the racing tracks display a showcase of exquisite themes - from classic "City" and "Nature" scapes to more elaborate designs such as the fantasy "Marchen" or the unique "Special" courses. Road hazards also spice up the game and make each play session unique - from classic pits, speed boosters to shortcuts and disorienting teleporters.
