Galaga: Destination Earth

Galaga: Destination Earth

King of the Jungle, Hasbro Interactive

Galaga, the "slide-and-shoot" arcade classic from 1981, has been updated with nine new worlds, 3D graphics, futuristic backgrounds and more in GALAGA -- Destination: Earth. Like in the original game, you begin this enhanced version of Galaga controlling a ship that moves horizontally along the bottom of the playfield and fires upward at wave after wave of diving, swirling aliens that eventually fly into formation. However, unlike the original, this game, depending on what mission you are playing, features a number of other viewpoints, including over the shoulder, top down and side on. You can fire just two shots at a time, but you can gain the ability to have three shots onscreen at once. Also like the original game, GALAGA -- Destination: Earth features challenge waves in which you blast streams of enemies for points while not having to worry about your own safety. And, of course, you can let a Galaga capture your ship, then shoot your ship's captor, letting the captured ship fall to you, enabling you to double your firepower. Similar to Gaplus, the sequel to classic Galaga, this game also lets you collect beam power-ups that enable you to capture enemies, place them by your side and use their weapons.

World Circuit: The Grand Prix Race Simulation

World Circuit: The Grand Prix Race Simulation

MicroProse Software, Inc., Hasbro Interactive

Formula 1 Grand Prix (known as World Circuit in the US) is the first installment of Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix series. The game includes all 16 international GP circuits of 1991. Players may drive them in quick race mode, single race or a full championship. The 18 teams and 35 drivers and their performance are based on the 1991 season, but the game doesn't include real names. It is possible to edit and save team and driver names by hand. The extensive tuning feature influences the performance of the car. In-race setup allows players to adjust gear ratios, brake balance, wing downforce and tires during each visit to the pit box. Six optional driving aids help F1 rookies finish their race: players can toggle best line and suggested gear displays to learn track tactics, or have auto brakes, auto gears, self-righting spins and indestructibility to improve their driving. A replay system allows players to watch race scenes from three different views, including track-side camera footage. The game features 3D graphics and various details and effects such as working rear mirrors, collisions with flying debris, crude damage models (wings are visibly bent after crashes), and wet weather that influences traction, including a fog effect that obscures vision when driving in another car's splash water. While the Amiga version allows multiplayer races in hotseat mode, the PC version originally had solo races only. In 1993, the v1.05 update added modem support and a few other improvements.

Kids Tetris

Kids Tetris

Blue Planet Software, Hasbro Interactive

Kids Tetris is a variation of the classic Russian puzzle game geared towards children. The main characters of the game are the Minos, the pieces that make up the Tetris board. There are four locations where you can play Tetris: the circus, the fire station, the laboratory, and the haunted house. Each board requires a certain amount of lines to be cleared to win Tetris. Since the game is a variation for children, the blocks start out small and fall down slowly. As the game progresses, the pieces become more complex and they fall down faster. After you win, there are many toys and stage props that you can play with in the activity center. You can also print out coloring pages based on the game and a certificate for each stage you play. The game supports both single player and multiplayer. The game is playable with the on-screen mouse controls or the keyboard.
