Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams

Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams

Sanrio Digital, Empire Interactive

Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams takes the cute little mascot of Sanrio where no kitty has gone before: out of Sanrio Town! You see, Hello Kitty has gotten bored of life in the middle of scenic nowhere and craves a more exciting lifestyle in the big city. But her main reason why she's moving to the big city is because she's always wanted to live in a penthouse on the top floor of her new apartment building. With the help of her friends - both old and new - she just might make it in the big city. And, to coin the old phrase, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere! As Hello Kitty, the player explores a massive city, full of streets, buildings, attractions, shops... practically anything that a city this large can offer. Within these localities lie a series of mini-games which can help Hello Kitty earn friendship points, which in turn entitle Hello Kitty to ride public transportation, purchase new stuff, customize her apartment, and move her one step closer to her dream penthouse.

Starsky & Hutch

Starsky & Hutch

Mind's Eye, Empire Interactive

Starsky & Hutch is an arcade racing game based on the popular TV series from the 70s, released to tie in with the film. The game includes 18 missions, each based on an episode of the TV show and introduced by Antonio 'Huggy Bear' Fargas. There is also a free roaming mode, in which the player explores the GTA-esque environment looking for action and trouble. Like the film, the game does not entirely play it straight. Starsky & Hutch are actually shooting a TV show, and the scoring for each mission reflects how ratings-friendly your driving is. You are awarded gold, silver or bronze medals for each mission depending on performance, and must get at least 1 gold and 2 silvers on season 1 for a second season to be commissioned, and 3 golds and 2 silvers in season 2 for there to be a third for you to play through. The overall goal in each mission is usually to chase and destroy a criminal's car. There is always a secondary target as well. In addition, the player will gain viewers by hitting the bad guy, pulling off elaborate jumps and skids, nearly hitting civilians, and hitting the bonus targets such as canisters which are strewn through the levels. Hitting civilians will lose viewers.

Pipe Dreams 3D

Sick Puppies, Empire Interactive, Syscom Entertainment, GungHo Online Entertainment

Pipe Dreams 3D is a three-dimensional remake of the classic puzzle game Pipe Dream. This remake/revision includes characters, different continents, new obstacles, and a story-driven mode. This puzzle game presents the player with an isometric perspective on a tiled game board and the objective of building a network of piping that will transport a slow but unending flow of creepy green ooze safely to a small plug hole. The strategic challenge comes in using the limited space and available pipe pieces to create a conduit that will take the ever-flowing ooze where it needs to be. As the player progresses through the game's 18 levels, additional barriers and obstacles compound the challenge.

Sega Marine Fishing

Sega Marine Fishing

WOW Entertainment, Sega, Empire Interactive

Sega Marine Fishing is a fishing video game in which the player attempts to catch various marine sport fish. The gameplay's emphasis was on enticing fish to bite onto the lure and then successfully fighting the fish and reeling it to the boat. As the player catches fish, they earn item cards. Items earned with these cards include fish and artifacts for an aquarium, fishing equipment, additional boats, and various goofy accessories such as different colored shorts. The game also featured two modes of online play: tournament fishing and "fish mail". In tournament fishing, players competed to catch the biggest fish within a species. Fish mail consisted of writing short messages. Players could receive random messages by catching fish. Sega Marine Fishing can be played using the Dreamcast fishing rod controller. Total Immersion Racing

Total Immersion Racing

Razorworks Studios, Zonic Limited, Empire Interactive, Feral Interactive

Total Immersion Racing is a bare-bones rendition of Gran Turismo 3 or Sega GT 2002, albeit without the preponderance of cars and special effects. What's left over is a driving simulation that offers the rich gameplay of these heavy hitters, as well as a graphical show that's nearly on par with them, but none of the frills or splash that would attract casual players in search of a vicarious speed rush. It's a game for people who want to discover what the weekly toil of GT-class competition is really like, who understand that actual racing often entails driving around the same course lap after lap without much fear of hazards or obstacles, and who don't mind that the ultimate reward is the ability to drive a handful of different cars for various teams on tracks located throughout the world.
