Daisenryaku II: Campaign Version

Daisenryaku II: Campaign Version

SystemSoft, Micro Cabin

Daisenryaku II: Campaign Version is a turn-based war strategy game that relies on the gameplay template introduced in Daisenryaku II: up to four players engage in battles against each other or computer AI, represented by differently colored armies (blue, red, green, and yellow); the belligerents produce units and vehicles and navigate them on a hex-based grid, trying to occupy the enemy's major cities and harbors. The game includes a main campaign with introduction and background information about the fictional countries involved in the conflict. In addition, at least a dozen playable maps are included, some representing real geographical areas. The MSX and PC Engine (TurboGrafx) CD versions feature enhanced graphics, full-screen battle sequences with backgrounds, and many additional maps.

Elysion is a traditional 8-bit JRPG that incorporates elements from various RPG games. While it starts with the player talking to the local King for exposition, similar to other traditional JRPGs, it takes inspiration from different games within the RPG genre. It shares similarities with the first Dragon Quest in appearance, offers the choice of multiple protagonists like in Final Fantasy, features real-time combat without screen transitions like Hydlide or Ys, and adopts the strategy of enemies only moving when the player does, as seen in strategic Roguelike dungeon crawlers like the Mystery Dungeon series. The main objective of the game is to defeat the evil demon Baal. However, before facing this final challenge, the player character is tested by the King. They are tasked with entering the dungeon beneath the castle and retrieving important quest items. Once they successfully complete this extensive dungeon, the protagonist is recognized as the Hero of God and can embark on a journey to defeat Baal. This entails exploring the continent to find magical scrolls and eventually acquiring special God-like equipment. The term "Elysion" refers to the Elysian Fields, an ancient Roman underworld reserved for honorable souls who died in battle.

World Advanced Daisenryaku: Sakusen File is an entry in the Daisenryaku series with the campaign focusing on the eastern front during World War II. The game uses hexagonal grid over the battlefield map similar to that in the original Panzer General game. Available gameplay modes include standard mode and campaign mode. In standard mode the player can choose and play any map in single player or multiplayer and available selection of units is preset. In campaign mode, the player can go through Soviet story campaign which follows the actual historical events of WWII, or Cenozoic virtual campaign where any of the five available forces, namely US, British, Soviet, German, or Japanese, can be selected. During the campaigns the units evolve over time and upgrade into more powerful units that were developed during the course of World War II.
