Chaos League

Chaos League

Cyanide Studio, Digital Jesters, Focus Entertainment

Chaos League is a fantasy-based sports management game developed by Cyanide Studios and published by Digital Jesters. It was released in Europe on 8 August 2004 and later in North America on 8 March 2005. The game is a spin on American football, the violence of the Medieval football with no rules and rugby-style of sports yet set in a fantasy world with teams being made up of fantasy races such as dwarves, elves, orcs and undead, along with the use of magic and other fictional elements during a "match". The tone of the game is satirical with comedic color commentary and adverts for fictional in-game universe products. An official expansion was later released in 2005 bundled with the original, titled Chaos League: Sudden Death that added new features and gameplay tweaks. While not a direct video game adaption, Chaos League bears resemblance to Games Workshop's Blood Bowl tabletop board game, which is also about fantasy sports. Cyanide Studios would later develop the video game version of Blood Bowl in 2009, which itself utilizes certain features from Chaos League.

Blood Bowl 2: Wood Elves

Blood Bowl 2: Wood Elves

Cyanide Studio, Nacon

WOOD ELVES race comes with its own unique AI and players (Passers, Wardancers, catchers, linemen and the Treeman) but also their own star players: Dolfar Longstride and Jordell Freshbreeze! Elves are amazingly agile and almost as fast as Skaven. Avoiding other's tackles is a pure formality for them. Especially for the Wardancers whose ability to go through opposing defenses is nearly outmatched. Elves are excellent passers and catchers. Their game could become a true nightmare for other teams not as agile and fast as they are. The Treeman is probably the strongest player in the whole of Blood Bowl. He's gifted with an extraordinary natural strength against which very few players can compete. However, the Treeman is extremely slow and has a bad tendency of taking root in the middle of the field. If that happens, he won't be able to move...at all.

Blood Bowl 2: Lizardmen

Blood Bowl 2: Lizardmen

Cyanide Studio, Nacon

Lizardmen race comes with its own unique AI and players (skinks, Saurus and Kroxigor) but also their own star players: Slibli and Hemlock! The biggest strength of the Lizardmen lies in two types of key players available: Skinks and Saurus. Skinks are very fast and nimble. Bringing the ball to the goal line is not a problem for them. While very mobile, Saurus are also amazingly powerful. Their role is to breach the enemy's defense line so that Skinks can sneak through with the ball. The Kroxigor is a true mountain of muscle and scales. He adds an important strike force to his team. He is rather fast for his size, which allows him to act quickly. Unfortunately, he sadly lacks in dexterity. The Kroxigor is the player to use when Lizardmen want to hit hard...

Blood Bowl 2: Undead

Blood Bowl 2: Undead

Cyanide Studio, Focus Entertainment

The Undead race comes with Mummies, Ghouls, Skeletons, Zombies and Wights players but also their own star players: Ramtut III and Count Luthor Von Drakenborg! An Undead team's greatest asset is their mastery over death itself. Their Regenerate skill makes them very, very difficult to kill… It’s also a versatile team, with heavy hitting Mummies able to wade in and support the faster but weaker Ghouls and Wights. Get the right mix and you’ve got a first class team. Some Blood Bowl players killed on the field are brought back to life by their passion for the sport, and Necromantic magic, as Wights. Freed from 'boring' mortal restrictions like sleep, thirst or hunger, the Wights can spend all their spare time in training. Thanks to their Block skills and their good agility, the Wights are central players for the Undead teams. Be sure to hit hard with them!

Blood Bowl

Blood Bowl

Cyanide Studio, Focus Entertainment

Blood Bowl is a combination of a tactical and sports game. The basics are extremely simple: two teams, one ball. The team that carries the ball into the opponent's end zone scores a touchdown, the team with the most touchdowns at the end of the game is the winner. However, it’s how you decide to do this that makes things interesting, the ends justify the means! It’s not just the players you have at your disposal either. You can bribe the referee to look the other way as you cripple or trample annoying opponents and hire illegal wizards to give you a hand directly from the crowd… Blood Bowl severely tests the finest tacticians' strategies. There are many races to accommodate every player’s profile (23 in the Chaos Edition, 20 in the Legendary Edition, 9 in the Standard Edition) and even more strategies for experimenting. Winning a game requires a strong game-sense and a lot of self-control. For the player's enjoyment, omnipresent humour and the use of spells, weapons, and other non-regulatory actions place Blood Bowl outside of the classic sport simulation genre.

Added to the brutal mix are new races, new grounds, 19 additional hero characters, improved commentary, additional in game options such as auto spell casting... and the ability to beat up the referee! In multiplayer, opponents can goad each other via microphone, and fresh tournament modes can be managed to create almost limitless leagues.
