ReTux is a 100% libre software and 100% libre culture action platformer loosely inspired by the Mario games, utilizing the art assets from the SuperTux project. The name "ReTux" is a play on the words "redux" and "Tux". Although ReTux re-uses the art assets of SuperTux, no code from SuperTux is used in ReTux. The software portion of ReTux is entirely new, written in Python and based on the SGE Game Engine. ReTux also has several distinctions in its gameplay compared to both SuperTux and the Mario games.

Mario, Luigi and Polter are joined by an ex-EVL soldier named Eden to take back Princess Peach and the ring! There will be many levels with different missions to complete by finding Energy Drops. The game also aims at making Polter more involved, with him now being able to consume special fruits to give him powers to help Mario out. Power-ups such as Laser and Jetpack return, while the new Thorn power-up joins them, with other new power-ups still to come.

Magikoopa Security Force is a new take on the Tower Defense genre - instead of constructing towers to stop generic enemy units, one must strategically place Minions-Bowser's minions, that is-in a level to stop a decidedly nonuniform onslaught of Shy Guys. It is as much a game of Tower Defense as it is a game of action, as the Magikoopa you control is just as capable of defeating attackers as one's minions. Casting offensive spells and summoning aid requires time, and the determined Shy Guys don't give you any time between waves to relax. After clearing a stage, one is awarded coins and a rank, based on the amount of coins remaining from the mission.
