The 5 Games I'm most excited for this week! (Aug 23rd-29th)

Shining a light on slew of fantastic releases!

Roger Cummings

Hey everybody, Its Roger and I wanted to start this little weekly newsletter telling you the 5 games I am most excited to check out in the upcoming week and why I'm excited for them! This is Gamescom week so with a ton of announcements comes a huge week of releases and a bit of something for everyone. From a couple stellar looking tactical games, to a return to a world that i love and adore the stories, lets get into it!

  • Box Knight
Box Knight
We Made A Thing Studios

Fight. Die. Repeat. Become the Box Knight and brawl through a monster-infested office, floor by floor, boss by boss, in this irreverent action roguelike.

ActionHack and slash/Beat 'em upIndie

Sometimes there is nothing I love more then a fun goofy Beat'em Up and Box Knight is exactly that. Described by the Devs as a mix of 'The Office' meets 'Lord of the Rings' , Box Knight looks to be such a creative and fun rougelike with incredible animations and a slew of weapons and choices. The humor seems similar to South Park and honestly im just really wanting something light and goofy that i can pick up and play with my friends. Plus it reminds me of the old Castle Crashers days, so im excited to see this full release.

  • BRIGANDINE ABYSS
BRIGANDINE ABYSS
Adglobe, NIS America, Inc., Happinet

Play as one of six factions to confront the Abyssloa Empire. Command your troops, develop your bases, and take control of the continent of Meltitea in this tactical strategy RPG!

Role-playing (RPG)SimulationSimulatorStrategy

Next up we have 1 of our 2 Tactical games releasing this week and honestly Im not entirely sure what to expect here. I played the demo a couple months ago and I loved the tactical strategy gameplay. The story here is where I'm going in somewhat blind, with a story mode where you can choose between 6 different nations and experience each of the unique stories from their perspective in a fantasy world at war. It reminds me so much of Fire Emblem, so with a new one in that series coming next month do i really have the time to dive in here? Probably not, but i do hope to dive in within the next few months and check out this intriguing world and game myself.

  • STAR WARS Zero Company
STAR WARS Zero Company™
Bit Reactor, Electronic Arts

Command an elite squad through a gritty and authentic story in STAR WARS Zero Company™, a single-player turn-based tactics game set in the twilight of the Clone Wars™.

AdventureRPGSimulationSportsStrategy

Here is the 2nd big Tactical release of the week! Coming from Bit Reactor(Former Firaxis devs) and EA, this is a dream game for me. I love and adore XCOM and Marvel's Midnight Suns so bringing together the customization of the former and blending it with hopefully great storytelling is something that I am beyond excited to lose so many hours in. I cant wait to make my Hawks and lead the Zero Company into battles across the Galaxy!

  • Blood Dungeon
Blood Dungeon
Messhof

From the creators of Nidhogg, murder hordes of monsters in this 2D platforming autoshooter with a killer soundtrack. Collect Blood, gold, and bones to increase your powers. Can you survive the Blood Dungeon?

ActionFightingIndiePlatform

I have to be honest, the wave of Survivors-like games have not been a genre that I've been really drawn into aside from TerraTech Legion, but to my surprise when i booted this game's demo up on stream the other night i was instantly pulled in. Coming from the creators of Nidhogg is a wild, gory, goofy, and crass take on the genre. Running around and jumping from platforms while listening to some of my favorite music in a game is incredibly thrilling and the art style is so endearing. If you love the Survivor style of games, make sure you pick this up and if you haven't been drawn in yet, go try the demo!

  • Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Asobo Studio, Focus Entertainment

Embark on an original story, prequel to the award-winning games: A Plague Tale. As Sophia, journey to the Minotaur’s Island, outsmart deadly foes, unravel ancient secrets, and confront a mythical creature at the heart of a devastating curse.

ActionAdventure

Finally comes the return to a world that i have just been enamored with across 2 games of one of the most underrated new Franchises of the last decade. In this prequel we are hopping into the shoes of Sophia, a character i cannot remember whatsoever, but does that matter? This game looks incredible, with so much more action and fighting systems and a story that seems to be steeped in mythology. I'm prepared to go back into this world and play the many other stories that they are willing to give us every time as they have earned that from me in my opinion.
