What has me the most jazzed after Gamescom Opening Night Live
There are too many good looking games coming out
Gamescom Opening Night Live aired on Wednesday, August 25th, and hit us with gaming announcements and trailers (as per usual).
I wanted to jot down (partially for my own memory!) which ones resonated with me the most and are ones that I think you should pay attention to. In here are a mix of ones you may expect but perhaps some ones that you hadn't...
The Expected Titles
Final Fantasy VII: Revelation

Final Fantasy VII is one of my favourite titles of all time, so there's absolutely no surprise to find it on this list, and the latest trailer that Square Enix showed off had all the reasons to hype us up even more.
Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon were shown off - and the fights look like they are going to be just as epic as we all hoped and dreamed of when we played the original Final Fantasy VII back in the early 1990s.

Mega Man: Dual Override

It's 2026, and we're getting a new Mega Man game in 2027. Times are good.
It's 2D - it's stylish - maybe a bit bubbly (for my taste) - but at the same time has seemingly all of the look and feel of what I would hope a new Mega Man game would entail.
I'm perhaps cautiously optimistic about this, but still heavily anticipating it because Capcom has been knocking it out of the park lately.
CONTROL Resonant

Remedy Entertainment
Explore a warped Manhattan on the brink of paranatural annihilation in this thrilling action-adventure RPG. Unleash the extraordinary powers of Dylan Faden as he fights for his humanity and our survival against a reality-bending cosmic threat.
Perhaps one of 2019's most woefully underappreciated games has a sequel coming imminently in CONTROL Resonant, where the player plays as the predecessor's brother.
A focus on melee combat has looked incredible so far, and this new trailer did nothing to dissuade those notions. This game looks like it has the potential to be at Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards come this December.
The Unexpected Titles
Mariachi Legends

Halberd Studios
Mariachi Legends is a brutal, pixel art, combat-oriented Metroidvania set in the heart of Mexico. You play as Pablo Cruz, a detective who has agreed to a deal with Death herself. She has given Pablo the ability to transform into the mighty La Sombra allowing him to fight back against evil.
Mariachi Legends has all the elements, at first glance, to be an incredibly fun metroidvania title. Shown in the ONL pre-show, the music is an obvious stand-out - but it shouldn't take away from the seemingly fluid action, art, and level design. This is one I'm excited to check out - in April 2027.
Tarae: The Unbound

Tarae: The Unbound looks like an incredibly stylish ARPG set in a dark fantasy world. Fans of Path of Exile and Diablo should pay attention, as it looks like this game could have all of the potentially hooking trappings of those types of games.
Had no idea this existed, I'm glad it does, and I can't wait to play it.
Worms: Galactic Tactics

Perhaps my most niche take of this post, the Worms franchise is one that holds a special place in my heart. There were many late nights in the University dorms having LAN parties (god, I'm old) where friends and I would laugh, yell, and talk trash to each other as we battled on custom maps.
ANYTHING new when it comes to Worms is something I will look out for. I think it still has a place in gaming today and can be a really fun party game.
