Halve | Two Spirits, Puzzles, and a Story of Reunion
A wordless puzzle-platformer about two separated spirits, a broken world, and the journey to become whole again.
Halve builds its entire identity around a simple but genuinely interesting idea: two spirits have been separated, lost their memories, and must cross a broken world in search not only of the truth about their past, but also of a way to become whole again.
The atmospheric puzzle-platformer from Moonleaf Studio combines simultaneous control of two different characters, environmental puzzles, exploration, and a wordless narrative that unfolds through the world itself, the music, and the bond between the two spirits.

Two spirits, one shared story
In the world of Halve, two sacred spirits once had separate roles. The Deer was connected to the land, growth, and fertility, while the Bird was associated with the wind, weather, and sky.
Over time, the two spirits joined together and became a single divine being, bringing balance and harmony to the world. That balance, however, did not last forever.
Another god, driven by jealousy over the devotion shown to the goddess, tried to destroy her. It failed to erase her completely, but instead split her in two, returning the Deer and the Bird to separate and now far more fragile forms.
Their separation had devastating consequences. The world began to collapse, temples were abandoned, entire regions fell into ruin, and places that once represented life and prosperity were reduced to remnants of a lost past.
When the two spirits awaken, they no longer know what they once were or why they were separated.
Halve is a search for a lost identity

Their journey becomes both a struggle for survival and a search for identity. As they travel through ruined landscapes, forests, caves, forgotten shrines, and ancient temples, they begin to uncover traces of their true nature. Murals, statues, and remnants of an old faith gradually reveal that the Deer and the Bird were not simply two spirits travelling together.
They were once a single force. This discovery slowly transforms their journey from a simple struggle to survive into a quest for reunion. If they were once one, then perhaps there is still a way for them to become whole again.
The problem is that the god who separated them is still hunting them. As long as they remain divided, they are more vulnerable, which means that every step towards reunion is also a fight against their complete destruction.
Simultaneous control lies at the heart of Halve
The narrative idea of the bond between the two spirits carries directly into the gameplay. In Halve, players control both the Deer and the Bird at the same time, learning how to move them as a single unit, when to separate them, and how to make use of their different abilities.
The puzzles are built around this relationship. Some sections require careful timing and coordination, while others ask players to manage the position of both characters across different parts of a level, allowing one spirit to open a path for the other.
The system is supported by abilities such as Freeze, Glide, Charge, and Swap, which are used both during exploration and when solving environmental challenges.
As a result, the connection between the two characters is not simply a narrative element. It is the core mechanic around which the entire game has been designed.
A world that changes along with the journey

The adventure begins in a barren, devastated region filled with ash, ruins, and the feeling that almost nothing has been left behind.
As the two spirits move forward, however, the environment begins to change. Desolation gradually gives way to dense forests, more colour, and signs of life, before the journey eventually leads into sacred locations directly connected to their past.
Each area has its own character and pace. There are quieter moments of exploration where the focus shifts towards atmosphere and the surrounding environment, as well as more intense sections where the two spirits must keep moving and face the threats standing in their way.
The world itself appears to evolve alongside the two characters. From destruction and loss, the journey gradually introduces more light, life, and hope.
What Halve offers as a game
Beyond its central mechanic of controlling two spirits at once, Halve is a single-player puzzle-platformer built around handcrafted levels that combine exploration, platforming, and environmental puzzles, while progression gradually opens up new ways to interact with the world.
Halve already has a free demo available on Steam, giving players the opportunity to experience its core gameplay and some of its mechanics. The full version currently has no confirmed release date.
Music is part of the storytelling

Music plays an important role in Halve and is not treated simply as background accompaniment.
The game features an orchestral soundtrack designed to evolve alongside the journey of the two spirits and the different regions they travel through.
The heavier, more oppressive moments of the devastated world gradually give way to different musical tones as the environment changes, while more imposing areas, such as the ancient temples, are accompanied by greater intensity and a more epic character.
The music, art direction, puzzles, and storytelling have all been designed to work as parts of the same experience, allowing the narrative to develop without relying on dialogue or extensive exposition.
A journey about what was lost and what can still be restored

At its core, Halve is not simply trying to tell a story about two characters who need to travel from one place to another.
The game revolves around separation, memory, and reunion. The Deer and the Bird have lost what they once were, but they remain connected to one another and continue moving towards a shared goal, even before they fully understand why.
Their path eventually leads them towards a sacred temple built in honour of their former united form. There lies the possibility of reclaiming their power, restoring balance to the world, and completing what began as a journey through the ruins.
The simultaneous control of the two spirits, coordination-based puzzles, wordless storytelling, and orchestral music all serve the same central idea. Through these elements, Halve appears to be aiming for something more than a typical puzzle-platformer.
Its goal is for the gameplay to continuously reflect the relationship between its two protagonists: even when separated, they must learn to function as one.
